Focus on Long-Range Access Control Solutions

This month, we're going to do something a little different by focusing on one type of access control application...long-range.

At some point, most access control professionals will need to sell, spec or install an access solution for a parking structure, gated community, storage facility, marina, or other long-range scenario where a typical RFID reader may not be ideal. Farpointe's Ranger® was designed for these types of applications. Operating at the 433-MHz frequency, Ranger gives users up to 200 feet (61 m) of read range at the push of a button!

However, Ranger provides much more than that. Farpointe engineered a solution that can work with traditional readers—or in place of them in certain situations—making the versatile Ranger a valuable addition to your access control offering.

Ranger Use Cases

Ranger is one of the most versatile access control ID solutions on the market today. While designed for parking, gates and other typical long-range uses, its flexibility is ideal for a wide variety of applications. As an example, take a small office building with four access points: front door, employee entrance, secure IT closet and shipping area. A single WRR-44 Receiver can control all four points, each assigned to its own channel, and its own button on a WRT-4+ Transmitter. This eliminates the need to install and run cable for four separate readers.

Extend Your Read Range with an External Antenna

The Ranger WRR-44 Receiver may be fitted with an external antenna that can increase its read range beyond the nominal range of up to 200 feet (61 m) and support directivity.
